Neglecting the blog-o-matic

We had a terrific day today! Last night I got to hang out and visit with a busy friend, and we ate some of a cake I made. I was origionally planning to take it down to some free music on the water, but I was tired by the time it came out of the oven, so that plan was out the window.

I have a bad habit when I'm cooking of leaving out ingredients or making unwarranted substitutions. Usually for the worst, and generally the first time I try to make things. It's a major problem, although most of the time I can eat whatever it is that I've made. Last night it was leaving the lemon zest and vanilla out of a fruity cake. As it turns out, almond is not always a good substitute for vanilla, and the lemon is a vital ingredient.

Wiley came over late late last night, and we slept in greatly this morning. We had some of the cake for breakfast (he was not a fan), I tried unsuccessfully to make oatmeal (seriously gross), and we eventually went downtown and got him coffee and a scone at the ol' Mount Bakery. And he got me a fucking chocolate truffle! Yummy!

The Big thing that we did today was ride bikes! I've always been a big biker, although I've fallen out of the habit since late in high school and college. I'm getting more into it now, having lost my car in a tragic recycling related accident in January.

I got wiley on the red bike, which is a nice little cruiser. He started out a little clumsey and awkward, but he has excellent body control, and was able to pick it up faily quickly. Just like with anything, the basics are often easy, its the details that are tricky. It's figuring out balance and power and knowledge of how the bike will respond. I'm super excited that we will be able to ride bikes together, another thing that we can share.

When we had tired ourselves out on the big flat patch of asphalt, he went home to get art and beer, and I rode the red bike home for my wallet, then down to the co-op and back. I was totally fucking exhausted. The blue bike it actually still in his car, heading out with him to work tonight. Whoops!

I made sandwiches, and we tried out redneck mimosas, a mix of orange juice and PBR which sounds like death but is actually yummy and perfect for an evening of reflaxing. We tried to stay off of the internet so that we could make some art, but totally failed. We played around quite a bit, and enjoyed the beautiful sun.

He went home for the night, and I totally miss him.
